Hi. I have posted this elsewhere but I need help in my search.
Back in the 70s I was into prospecting a bit with a dredge. Day's long gone. Back then I bought a map from a prospecting shop in Dandenong (no longer there) and it was one of the best maps I had. It was some sort of forestry map or something. It covered an area from I recall Omeo down to Bruthen and had all tracks and streams marked clearly. It even showed buildings as I remember. I don't really know what type map it was but it was good to useand a large size. Obviously a section map.
Google is good but not as usefull in the feild.
Does anyone know where I could get one now or any recommendations as to another. I would like the same area and one of the gold area in the triangle. I will use it for planning trips as with this map I could plan where I can get close to rivers and streams with a bit of ease. I am now 70 and not as fit as I used to be but I know I can still get out there and spend time prospecting at my pace and breath the good air.
Also interested in meeting people interested in the same hobby that live close to me. I'm in Cranbourne Victoria. Don't let age scare you off as I am still young at heart and associate fairly well with all ages.
Cheers Doug WD

No. Not as yet. This map was not specificly a gold map. more of a forestry map. I will check out your advise as I will be needing other maps also.
Thanks for getting back to me.
Cheers

:Y: No Worries Dude
When you go into the Library web page just type in forestry maps there are 100's of maps .
Maybe the one you are looking for maybe not .
Enjoy the hunt :D :Y:

Sorry I cant help on hard copies of maps , but the incidents and warnings website http://emergency.vic.gov.au/respond/
uses a high quality topo map .There are 2 maps, a regular google type one and the "good " one . Toggle between via the map icon lower left screen
it is zoom-able , with all the parks , forests , reserves etc. and looks much like the old natmap series
thanks Brett

There is a phone app on iPhone called "old maps" has maps for my state (SA) dating back to mid 1800s, Vic probably older. it won't be as detailed as you're asking for but worth a looksie

Hey Diablo. Thanks for that. It is not the map but it shows all the tracks and streams. I can use that and print out hard copy of section of interest.
Thanks again.
WD

I think you are thinking of the regional Fire Maps.

I had the region 24 fire map - covered a very large area of the Northeast of the state. Great topo maps and, yes, they did have houses, sheds, etc, and they even listed who owned those dwellings.

They are no longer made unfortunately - I would guess for privacy reasons.

You could probably find one through Google, eBay, gumtree, etc.

I find it hard to believe that in NSW we get Topo Maps for nothing and in Vic you have to pay for them. There is something very wrong here.
