Red coral? Found in beach tide it has a dot on top that looks like it came off a branch or something.
groved line that runs all way around and meets.
looks almost symmetrical on both sides.
Any ideas?? I seen similar to this in cooktown when visited but was more branch like.

You'll have to get a metal detector with all the stuff your finding on the beach! :)you have luck on your side ...
But don't know what that is...

if it was coral itd be more porous like the chunk your specimen is sitting on
I think it maybe a seed of some sort

Haha yes I will have to work on that one Kingsolomon :)

I know there is branches coral like this but I haven't seen a round one!!

Maybe seed 'Taipan' but yes I have seen smooth like this, Also its on a shell not coral :)

It is hard a glass.. probably harder and also shiny,
Its not going to grow :D

Hasn't changed since I found it while ago :)

Some seeds have an extremely hard, glossy outer coat though, especially some that are dispersed by the tides (eg, matchbox bean). I have to say it does look like a seed to me (not a matchbox bean), I'd suspect the seed from beach or dune scrub plant.

But it looks nice - maybe set it in a shell necklace as tropical beach jewellery :D
