Hey all, I've been given permission to be able to prospected on a friends property , the property borders the National parks and on the map its boundry is marked on a river/stream. Does anyone know the definite boundry line Im allowed to prospect on my mates side? is it river edge or in centre of stream? Cheers

depends on the property and the state , start off with your mates title which will show his boundary, depending on age and history he may own to the centre of the river but that is unlikely, however the river being part of the national park may be just as unlikely.

a real simple ( an totally unreliable but somewhere to start) way to start checking rivers as to weather they are Crown land or privately owned is to zoom in on google maps until you see property boundaries, if the river is bordered by its own boundary there is reason to investigate further with hope but, and it is a big but this is not definative and you need to check further with lands dept/rivers and waterways , what ever they are called in your state

Thanks outboard, after looking into it further as suggested I've found the river Is actually crown land. :( Cheers

that is not necessarily a bad thing , you need to find out now if it is included in the national park or not logic says to you and me that if we were making an area national park with a river as a boundary we would included the river but national parks are made by government departments and they have only a passing knowledge of logic.

You're very "kind" to the Govt in suggesting they have only a passing knowledge of Logic. If the National park is Kosciusko and you want to fish the NSW side of the Murray, you need a NSW Fishing License. If you cross the river and fish on the opposite side you need a VIC Fishing license. Where on earth is the logic in that. You're continually traversing from one side to the other whilst you're fishing.

No Bloody Logic Wal.
Try,
six.maps.
Google it for NSW Governmint and load it.
Accept the excuse if they are wrong.
Zoom to the area that you wish to adhere to. 8)
Top right hand side,
Choose Map Contents. Tick the first 4 box's
deciding if you are going to be flooded out. LOL
If you want you can change to a Toppo Map.
If something goes wrong enquire as to why the Governmint spent 6 Million Dolaars in getting it wrong.
Usually Parks have their Boundry Signs back 20 Meters from the bank on their side.
Be Warned, Torrens Title now states "Middle of the waterway".
But they are different for some funny reason. ;)

Bloody Nora,
Just had to edit that 6 times.
Fingers and mind are worn out. :p

And that is exactly why the government call it six.maps, the first 5 versions were a complete balls up . ;) :D

Went in store today looking for a topo map and the assistance mentioned that nsw national parks have changed a few maps, taking certain marked trails off maps to keep Trekkies etc. on certain trails only.

They have been doing this for years, just plain wrong for historical and safety reasons. Makes them look stupid when you can flip the latest topos over and see the infrastructure on the photo but not shown on the map
