Via Trove, I stumbled across an interesting letter to the Western Mail's On Many Fields section, from Norm Sligo (Mates and Gold) in November 1937. It's titled The Old Timers in Review and he discusses some of the original discoveries and their finders, back in the early WA goldrush days:

I think it is. How often do you come across prospectors who just have to follow somebody else, never happy with their lot. They had already struck gold and yet they packed up and headed for Peak Hill. The same sort of guys continue to do the same thing these days.
