Hi All,
I have'nt been out for a hunt for while so decided to head down to Hamel an old town in South West WA, the Hamel school is no longer there just a vacant block still crown land. When I arrived I was surprised to see the grass had been slashed, this is going to be easy I thought but no luck on the coins just plenty junk.

Good luck with that hunt Kev. 1905 -1944 there must be coins there you can bet your last sixpence on that and with that amount of junk you must be one of the first to have a go.

Yeah planning going back next week and have another look, yeah Art I will try along the fence and other side of main road. I found the school roof, sheets of corrugated iron burried where the school once stood, will check the roadside drain for bottles.

Cheers

Hi All,
I went out for a swing at another old school site this time I scored a 1908 One Penny its still soaking in water, I give it a scrub with a toothbrush when I pass by. The first old one penny I found I gave it a acid bath and the coin was toast, still can't see the date on it, I learn't a lesson.

I found this, the grey threaded piece is lead. Anyone know what it is?

The clear glass cone shape bottle is the old Clag Glue, yep still remember.

The bolt with lead cap is for power lines or telegraph, bolts through the cross arm and a porcelain or glass insulator screws onto the lead.
The telegraph or power wire is then tied to the insulator.

Congrats on the older penny, should be some more around with large coppers still sitting in the ground. :Y:

Thanks guys, I went back to the old school site where I found the 1908 penny, and found another penny 1952 and some old bottles which I will clean up and have a better look at them. I found a old bullet casing its a rimfire but bigger in diameter than the 22 rimfire cartrige.

Cheers
Kev
