Hello from Germany

Hello all,

first of all i want to introduce myself as this seems to be always a good point to start somewhere!

My Name is Oliver, 31y old, live in Germany and work as a - lets say - computer specialist.
Hobbies are fishing, gold panning in our local creeks and rivers and of course computers.
Grown up in a rural area and raised by TV shows like Crocodile hunter and Malcom Douglas I started to
dream about your beautiful country pretty early but as live goes by you got a girlfriend, a job, eventually a house
and so on. But I was never a person to simply let it all pass by like this, I want more, I want to see the world
and eventually make a living out of gold. :lol:

That's regarding the dreams I am also a Realist and a good planning person who never blindly follows rumors or TV shows
that are quite popular nowadays.

However, i asked a good friend of mine, dedicated to the same thoughts and we said to each other, lets do it before
we eventually get to old to do it.

So here I am now, studiyng your forum, downloading nearly every information from the DMIRS website to simply get prepared.

Our current plan is to visit your beautiful country (we only know from TV shows so far), buy a car to stay independend and
of course follow our dedication to gold.

Especially the last thing gets sometimes pretty tricky to understand from what we find on the internet. Therefore I would like
to ask you guys a few question and would be super happy if someone can sort them out for us

1: As we will probably need a Visitors VISA because of our age (Work & Travel is available until you're 30), are we allowed
to work for a local prospector or prospecting shop to simply learn from them?

- Or is it just like "I help you, you help me" without getting paid?

2: What to do with the gold we find. Are we allowed to sell it on local stores?

Don't get me wrong here, we will plan enough budget for a whole year without the need of selling anything, it's just to be
prepared and not getting any trouble.
If we - in the end - could spend a great time with a bit of success with searching for gold, we would be more than happy.

Currently we are planning for 2020.

Regarding the Miner's Right (WA) for example, Crownland, Pastoral lease, [xxx] Tenement, I guess I am pretty much good informed after weeks of research.
And when I read between the lines of the DMIRS guidelines it sound that Prospectors and Pastoralists are not often friends with each other.
I simply hope that some of them will allow me to prospect on their land if I ask them friendly.

Not sure about WA im sure some one will set you straight about that in time on this forum or just get up 10 post then you can search the forum for travelers that have already done what your planning

Notify the pastoralist of your intentions and whereabouts, respect his property, don't wreck his tracks and don't leave a mess and you'll have no problems.
In general they are a helpfull, hospitable and friendly bunch and a wealth of local infomation.

You will have problems with lease holders if you are caught where you shouldn't be. It is vital that you know where you are at all times.

A WA miners right is $25.

Work paid or not, is concidered work and not permitted on a visitors visa.

I hope so! We have no intent of beeing ignorant tourists not caring what your local laws are. As of beeing also a sportfisher I know how to respect the nature and that trash belongs to the trashcan and not the wilderness!

When the trip comes closer, I will tell you and maybe some of you are up to meet us in person.

Welcolm to PA Oli. Are you going to be going to just W.A. or are you going to the GT that is the golden triangle in Victoria as well ? Most states have gold to be found but here in S.A. there are only a few places you can detect unless you get permision from a property owner. You could try the N.T. that is the Northern Territory. But please do not go swimming in any water holes unless someone local sayes it's safe. The crocodiles get hungry. Don't camp too close to water holes. Crocs will venture out of the water.
Watch out for old abandoned mine shafts. Some get covered over with sticks and leaves and the sides become unstable they can be very deep. Learn first aid as well. Carry an EPIRB

Hi again. In Australia when you are driving on a freeway the slower vehicle travels on the left side. I see in Germany it's on the right. Please do yourself a favour and do learn our road rules. My daughter inlaw was almost killed by an overseas tourist because they didn't know our rules. Also it will depend on where you will be going as to which vehicle will be the best for you to buy. What will you be sleeping in ? a tent a caravan or are you going to rough it in a swag...not recommended.
Sorry if I am ravingon a bit but all to often we hear of overseas travelers getting into trouble so if you want to know something just ask not matter how dilly you think it is.

You sound like a very sensible person.
Let us know which part of the country you are intending to look for gold and what type of gold prospecting you're wanting to do: alluvial, metal detecting, hard rock, small scale mininig.
Our forum covers a large country with all sorts of prospecting.
If you let us know members in that part of the country involved in that type of prospecting can give you some advice.

Also look at a Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) which are designed for land based rescue. EPIRB's are designed more for sea rescue.

No, we want to see as much from your country as we can. W.A. is just the state I start learning all about the prospecting rules right now. From Miner's Right to Tengraph.
For other states I am just watching youtube videos right now.

The friend whos going with me is working as a paramedic here in hamburg.
And on the DMIRS website I already found out about PLB (Personal Locator Beacon) - that should be quite the same right?

Gosh, I can only tell you that I hate tourist that have no clue about local laws...(hope she is doing well) We already know the left driving system from the UK but however, we will of course learn your different road rules.

Also it will depend on where you will be going as to which vehicle will be the best for you to buy. What will you be sleeping in ? a tent a caravan or are you going to rough it in a swag...not recommended.

Let us know which part of the country you are intending to look for gold and what type of gold prospecting you're wanting to do: alluvial, metal detecting, hard rock, small scale mininig.

Currently, we try to learn about Metal Detectors as much as we can as we here in germany only have experience with our sluicebox, Highbanker and pan.
