Just thinking about a few features from various detector manufacturers and other sources, that could be incorporated into one pinpointer.

- a light sensor to turn off the LED during the day to save power (the only pinpointer on the market that has this is the Nokta RS)
- a coloured proximity LED for silent night hunting (Vibra-quatic has this)
- option to use AA or 9v batteries (a Whites TRX feature)
- volume control
- LED dimmer
- LED with changeable colours (ed for nightime detecting to preserve night vision)
- bluetooth connectivity for silent searching
- replaceable casing (TRX feature)
- PI operation (x-pointer, pistol probe, vibra-probe/quatic)
- no falsing when pushed into the ground (x-pointer)
- disconnected circuit when not in use to prevent PI detector cross talk (Pro-find)
- IP rated to totally water, dust, shock proof (vibra-quatic, vibra-probe waterproof)
- removeable rechargeable battery pack and charger
- more than one colour choice (x-pointer)
- inbuilt lanyard loop (whites trx, x-pointer SS ring)
- selectable frequency
- rachet feature (most have this)
- inbuilt gps locator that automatically sends its location to your phone when lost, plus ability to log find locations to your phone when turned on (probably dreaming)
- xrf feature to determine metal composition (definitely dreaming! )

Am I dreaming, or could it be possible to incorporate most features with some effort and within reasonable pricing? :D

About the same $ as a CTX3030 and maybe not too much smaller :)

1: Light sensor, easy to implement... Impacts on water Ingress

2: Led Colour / flash rate to emulate the Alarm ratchet feature - Could be implemented.

3: Replaceable tip/casing - could be done.

Once you start getting into changeable frequencies, xrf , GPS and Bluetooth the circuit board starts to get large and the power consumption goes up. let alone the complexity of the board and the coil.

Add in the setting changes re flash rate / colour and you up for even more button pushing = more frustrating..

There is NO one size fits all...

I would like two; one for dry work but highly water resistant AND one for use when submerged..

OH and if you want sub gram gold, the that's another model.

Now they can make small boards and have all those features BUT unless you have a market base the size of the mobile phone market; then research / development and manufacturing is going to be expensive... And the more complicated, the more things can go wrong..

What you need is a smart phone app kit.

Micro USB to a pin pointer coil from the phone AND use the app to do what you want...

Plenty of water proof/rugged with LED / Flash rates / GPS / Phone home / Rechargeable and even take a pic on the fly and FB / upload as you go. Lcd screen and you could even have graphics...

Just get a small cheaper detector and a 2" (50mm) sniper coil.

Lol, it's a bit tongue in cheek, but realistically speaking, there are some features that should be on all pinpointers, especially on some of the pricier units. :)

Tongue in cheek, but you do have a point or two..

I would like the ability to;

1: Use other batteries. AA / 9V / Li Pio 7.4 (7.4 is possible with some skill)

2: Led sensor- Those that can be got at, can be modified to be brighter or duller...

3: Disposable / replacement Probe (not just the tip like the X-pointer) - again all systems can have this feature

4: Min access points / breaches to the body = better chance of maintaining water protection.

After that every thing else just gets too costly and complicated :D

And then to detect sub g gold... But it is not needed, if you think about how to use this feature.... If it detects sub gram gold and so does you detector it will also detect small lead and thus is not the best tool.

If you know you pin pointer, will not detect sub gram gold.... You gold machine is signalling but you know its small - Hand full of dust is giving a signal.

A: If the pin-pointer goes off, then lead or something else. Place dust into container y for later investigations and move on.

B: If pin pointer does not signal, better chance it is small gold. Place dust into container X for some good time when you get home.

If it is a bigger lump in the dust, then that's a different story, for lots of reasons.
