Hi all

I have recently moved to Weipa qld, I am super keen to start exploring around the area and have been doing some reading on the wenlock/Batavia gold mining area, my question due to it being a alluvial gold based area can you use a metal detector in that area for small nuggets? and could there possibly be bigger nuggets in that area? thanks a lot any feedback would be great thanks.

I see you are in Weipa, people do detect and find small nuggets at batavia. I tried my self but had better luck panning.

Yep, Stopped overnight a couple of years ago and got a few nice little nuggets up to 2.5g and a specie with 8g of gold in it.
The area to the north immediately you cross the Wenlock is the site of the old diggings and it was ok to detect in there at that time...

Great thanks for your info yes I was planning to head up to the pluto site, qlden when abouts was your last trip there ? thanks
