Cairns district for gold/ metal detecting

Moved to cairns a couple of years ago and I have my pops metal detector and I have one of my own.

Just wondering where is a good place to start looking around cairns??

Welcome Trent, where to go depends on what you are looking for.
I started on the beach then went into the parks, the front area of Cannon park race track still yields some pre-decimal coins with the equinox another place is Redbank road as there was a wharf built to supply the materials for when the mill was built.
Before you head out and start digging holes it's a good idea to learn detecting etiquette.
