I got up this morning to see more devastating news.
I feel a bit useless sitting here & my heart goes out to all those that have lost everything :brokenh:

Pretty sure they will be invoicing the fire service their assisting, not that they aren't worthy of notice. In all large campaign fire's no one would be fed if it wasn't for the mobile catering and volunteer teams. At the staging point in Kilmore for the Black Saturday fires Broadford brigade has a trailered cool room with drop down BBQ that we mobilise to incidents to feed everyone (manned by non operational brigade volunteers with food, fuel, water, paid for by the regional CFA office). While setting up the Salvo's arrived with their heavy rigid food truck and got really cranky that we were there feeding the masses :( they invoiced for their services :| it's not that they don't do a great job but once politics comes into it it can turn to :poop: with people who get their nose out of joint :mad:
 
I hear you DED however as an organisation they do achieve great results for people in desperate and disadvantaged circumstances like all reputable charities. I was trying to explain the behaviour of a few that sour the Salvo's reputation and I'm sure act outside the vision statement of the Salvo's. Yes they have grown to be a huge organisation and as a result they do have to run it as a commercial enterprise for it to survive, if they don't other's will gladly take the mantle.
 
yeah RMO, Im not saying don't support them. Just that I have had a previous issue with my local group that they pointed back to 'policy'.
I do know they still do great work.

Due to engine problems I have cancelled the rest of my holidays/trekking, & the money I had set aside for my annual leave I have now donated to a couple of these bushfire appeals, Salvos included.
I feel distressed at the thought of what many are currently going through :(
 
I would like to add Blaze Aid was formed after black Saturday and they do work to rebuild communities post fires.
They were talking about it today on the radio.

I recall seeing media posts about the great work they have done with previous fires.

Was talking with Kevin Butler yesterday, founder and president of Blaze Aid. He and his wife Rhonda certainly have created a charity monster and of course it couldn't have achieved the great success it has without the hard work from the thousands of volunteers beit Australians/back packer's and other internationals travelling through the affected areas where they can get in to help. I supply all the padlocks for the trailers (sent 18 off today) originally I supplied free of charge but Kevin insisted I provide an invoice now that their a well established organisation that receives funding. I'm talking with my supplier to take charge of the supply in the future this will help Blaze Aid funds given they can supply cheaper than I can. I've known Kevin and Rhonda for many years prior to Blaze Aid, they are terrific people :trophy: For anyone who is interested in a trailer and would like to support an independent who supports Blaze Aid Ballarat Trailers build and supply all of Blaze Aids trailers.
 
Unfortunately many legal charity organisations are nothing more than a well run business with next to nothing getting to the claimed recipient :(

I think every charity should be made to declare the % of $ that gets to the place the donor intended it to :8
 
I agree with Moneybox i was involved with the bendigo toy run and we use to donate about $3k each year in cash untill we found out that it all went down to head office for processing and 60% disappeared in admin fees after that we gave the food vouchers wont name the charity but starts with a V .PP

The recommended charity as far as i am concerned is the 'CWA' amazing people.
In WA... should be associated in other states.

I have just helped sort and load 2 full pallets of foodstuff for delivery to Foodbank in Yarraville. They had queues 500m long yesterday of cars delivering stuff. I think that they shut their doors at around 3pm, and opened again this morning at 10AM.

I would also encorage people to help through BazeAid, as in most cases I have found doing this work in several states, has been a great way of helping out.
