Hi guys ,, been awhile .
I am looking at getting a dedicated Gold detector . Just wondering whether I should , as the title say ,, go for a machine that specialises in one or the other ?
Thoughts please .
I mean , is there any point spending 5 k on a detector that wont pick up the tiny bits or spend $900 on say a Gold Monster that will pick up fly shit ?
I reckon theres more tiny stuff around than big stuff these days ,,, thats my theory anyway ;-)

Hi Jeff, the all arounder is the SDC Thinking its now around $3700 with extras. Definitely get the headsets.

You really have to look at where you intend to use the machine.
A Gold Monster has trouble handling the highly mineralized ground.
A 4500 with the all the coils that are available will just about cover all areas.

Im currently in WA using a 4500 and mainly use the 17 x 13 Evo coil and that is finding nuggets down to 0.15g. When I get into an area that may have smaller gold I use the Sadie coil.

The 4500 is a versatile machine and covers most aspects of detecting for gold and dosent have the limitations of the SDC or Gold Monster with regards to coils and depth of penetration into the ground.
Running the 17 x 13 on the 4500 I have found a 0.8g at 250mm deep . Probably wouldnt have been picked up by the Gold Monster of the SDC. Yesterday I recovered a 4.5g nugget at over 300mm deep with the 17 x 13 Evo. The SDC or GM would not have found that one

Another consideration is how many times a year are you going to be using it? Can you afford to spend $4000+ on a detector that may be sitting in the cupboard for most of the year.

Bob

Cheers everyone ,,, answers are about what I expected . Ill keep saving .
