I found these today, both from the same hole. I think they go together.

Hi Danny.
I dug this at a site that dates between mid to late 1800's, near Wagga NSW

All the other items from this particular site has been Victorian period. I have also dug a couple of military buttons from this site.

This is the reverse side.

Maybe a piece of a money clip ?
Yeah, I think you might be right Paul.
It even looks like a hand or something holding money at the clip part.

I don't think the two portions are from the one piece.

The bottom portion looks like a US marines officers insignia:

That punch plate affect is what the US uses for its insignia, guess because they have to produce so many of them.

That bar could be a medal ribbon holder.

I was thinking more on the line of a victorian pendant or paper clip, as hand motifs were quite popular items at the time. Below is a piece vulcanite jewellery with the hand motif, plus the other pic is of a brass hand motif paper clip. As mentioned, may possibly be a money clip, cigarette paper holder, or letter holder.

A US Marine symbol! :D Way far from that!

Would go with goldpick as I've seen them before in Victorian costume jewellery symbolising love and friendship circa 1880's, don't know about a money clip but think its just a pin type device. Nice find.
