Found this amazing WWII relic today at an old World War 2 camp. Did a bit of research on it, and its pretty amazing what I was able to find out.

United States Marine Corps WWII dog tag with the soldiers fingerprint on the back. It was imprinted on the back by using a couple of acidic solutions and heating the metal almost to its boiling point and having the soldier press his thumb against it. So incredible!

Have a read:

Thank you! I misread the process. The soldiers placed their inky fingerprint on the back of the dog tag which was preserved by the acidic solutions and heating process.

My reply to him:

Thank you so much (name). Krystal and I are heading to work right now, and I read this out to her as shes driving. It gave both of us chills and brought tears to our eyes. Saving history is very important to us, and moments like this make metal detecting the most rewarding hobby there is. Cant wait to get this amazing USMC dog tag back where it belongs. The memory of this one will live on with us for years and years to come. Appreciate you for your amazing words. Good man!
