hi this one has me wondering .. it looks like a zip tag but was found deep on the diggings vic. triangle and is very likely to have been there since 1850's. i dont think zips were around then so maybe it's a saddle bag tag or somthing simmilar. any thoughts??

yeah. thats what i thought. it is made of copper i think and you can just see the pattern on the grip part. that bit fit very snugly into the thumb when you grip it so i am certain that it is designed to be held with thumb and finger and pulled. thanks for your thoughts.

I wish all my zipper pulls looked like that LOL... Nice find, sorry I can't share any information on it.

off a tobacco pouch or gun-powder bag perhaps. very intricate design so I don't think it was from a common 'thing'. Perhaps even part of a weapon sling?

thanks loamer. i haven't seen a tobacco pouch or powder bag do you have any pics you could post?
