What do you do when you come across a fellow prospector/detector?

I read this topic and then last night came across another person for the first time at the beach. Nice bloke, gave me some tips on beachcombing and parted ways after he found a silver ring.

    My Coinmaster 6/db

The other day I found a Coinmaster 6/db working for $10 and grabbed it. I am starting to learn about prospecting etc and am wanting the option of having a bigger coil. It's an old VLF and i'm not sure how big I can go as I've read PI are fine with big coils but I'm not sure about mine. Also I...

    How to research from home

Thanks all. Wombat, I hadn't even thought of that. I'll be researching now and might find some time to pop down to our historical society for a chat. - Josh

    Backyard Find

So.. I put a light on my metal detector and went out the backyard to test it out in the dark. I found a spanner, nails about 7inches and an old hotwheels car. I then found a small, partly smooth magnetic rock with a red tinge. I sanded down a corner by hand as the sanding piece on my dremel...

    How to research from home

Hi Guys. I'm new to all of this (as of Tuesday just past) I was wondering. I live in Hervey Bay and thinking, how do you search your local area for places to hunt? Are there things to look for when searching through Google Earth? Rocky structures to keep an eye out for? maps and stories from...

    Advice on a rock

Hi AtomRat. Slag is one thing I'm thinking it is. As I'm new to this I'm not sure what it is or isn't. Popular theories are Basalt, hematite and magnetite. I just don't know. - Josh

    Today I MADE

Hi Jaros. I found a White's Coinmaster 6/DB the other day for $10 and that's where it began for me less than a week ago. Apparently it's a good old machine. Seems to do the job.

    Today I MADE

I had a little more time so I just put a GoPro mount onto my detector and also a ring light for hunting at night. - Josh

    Fraser Coast (Hervey Bay)

SO! I live in Hervey Bay and with family (wife and 2 boys) and work I don't get out of town much. Does anyone know good areas for using a metal detector in the area? I know Gympie is good and I've heard someone has found gold in Maryborough. Does anyone know good areas close to Hervey Bay for...

    Today I MADE

On Tuesday I went to the local recycling centre and found an old (1978) Coinmaster 6/D and grabbed it for $10. Apparently it was a great machine and was a $400 buy in the late 70s. Buying that made me want to get into hunting for gold/meteorites and whatnot. The only thing that doesn't work is...

    Advice on a rock

I just joined this group and only bought a metal detector 2 days ago. 30 minutes into hunting on my first try ever I found a rock. I don't think it's a meteorite but I can't seem to figure out what it is as I'm new to all of this. I sanded down an edge and it's black. It is magnetic. It is...

    Hello from a newbie

Thanks for the warm welcome. I am looking forward to fossicking. The main reason that I started wanting a metal detector was because I would love to find a meteorite. I will be checking out the gold areas and have been looking into Gympie. Any other clues or tips would be appreciated for SE QLD

    Possible Meteorite?

Looks like regmaglypts which is a good sign, it's not too smoothed but still... Get some sandpaper and rub a corner down and hopefully you'll find Iron.

    Hello from a newbie

Hi, My name is Josh and I've always wanted to make 'finding stuff' a hobby. I picked up an old Coinmaster 6/d the other day and it works really well. I live in Hervey Bay QLD and am looking for places to fossick (like gympie for gold). I look forward to getting into the forum and 'meeting' you...
