Aerial baiting, Baits - 1080 information and questions

Sorry to hear mate They've been laying 1080 down here in Tas for a couple of years now trying to bait foxes, despite the fact that no one's ever provided any proof that we have them down here. Pretty shithouse way to kill an animal if you ask me.

    Shifting rivers

Or maybe not, looks like it's got the globe covered for the previous 40 years. Not sure how to access the program though, doesn't look like it's freely available. https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Ezn1ne2Fj6Y

    Shifting rivers

Think it comes from here: https://earthengine.google.org/#intro Unfortunately it looks pretty specific to those areas listed, though I haven't looked too deeply into it.

    Shifting rivers

Found this gif on another forum and thought I'd post it here as it's pretty interesting. Really shows how quickly a river can shift over a short period of time (less than 30 years here). Really makes you think how much a river's course could change over millions of years.

Which are you, a Mac or PC?

My home and work PC are both Windows, but my students' laptops all run Macs (iOS?) which makes things very difficult. They ask me questions about their laptops and I have no idea how to fix em.

How To Build A Smartphone Microscope Stand for $10

think I need a new phone, all mine does is make calls and crash (doesn't help that my wife dropped it in the river... about 10 minutes after I told her not to drop it in the river).

    theoretical - $100,000 spend

20 metres? wow, didn't expect it to go that deep.

    theoretical - $100,000 spend

How much would a bore drill cost? I've seen the portable hand-held ones and they were around $5-6,000 from memory, but I don't think they go deep (could be wrong though). I imagine there would need to be a large contingency for fuel and repair on any operation.

    theoretical - $100,000 spend

Only $6,250? Surely there would be something wrong with it? http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/berkeley-vale/heavy-farming-agriculture-equipment/backhoe/1045744782 If you could pick up something like that for that price that ran okay then I imagine you'd be laughing. Most of the backhoes I've...

    theoretical - $100,000 spend

Hey If you had $100,000 given to you on the proviso that it only be used to look for gold or other rich minerals, how would you spend it? I'm thinking a second hand backhoe might be a good start with a lease somewhere, but I'm interested in hearing what other people's ideas would be on this forum.

    panning technique question

Got asked this today by my wife and I thought I'd ask you guys. If at the end of a pan there's black heavy sand in the bottom, can we assume that that means that if there were gold present then it would have been caught? In other words, are you panning correctly if you're catching black sand...

My Tassie 2 day Bazooka experiment

mfdes, yeah been reading the stuff on MRT. The only problem is, there's so much to learn that it's a bit overwhelming and I find myself with half a dozen tabs open at a time. Didn't know about that Google trick, sounds good. Cheers. Redmanti, I've been using the Google Earth points, but I...

My Tassie 2 day Bazooka experiment

Well, my tenants just gypped me of two weeks rent, so I'll be finding new ones and doubt I'll have the money for a while. My wife got the itch to go for a bit more of a hunt as a break from her uni stuff so we chucked the kids in the car today and tried out a couple other places in the Maydena...

My Tassie 2 day Bazooka experiment

Have you guys ever had a go at detecting down here? I know that Tassie's not meant to have large nuggets, but I also know that there have been some found over the years. Walking along the Styx the other day, I sort of could see where I think the river used to run (was a flat section of ground...
