I've known of someone finding bits of gold embedded quartz near the park (could only be seen after crushing it, could have been on private property near the park) but not had any luck myself yet.

That is a novel idea but the problem with the cheap units is that they work on triangulation of cell phone towers. This is not very accurate, as opposed to GPS positioning (within a few meters).

I don't mind doing a percentage with people I know; otherwise it 'poisons the well' with regards to jealousy of friends/family that let you have a play with your toy in their backyard.

The other end of that equation is that police chases can escalate minor offenses into major collisions.
As per another posters comment in this thread, the offender was known to police so a future drive by to arrest them would have been a preferable outcome and potentially* not have this...

Have a search for threads in relation to the coil itself, some people have good success with it on the 4500 and 5000 detectors.
I can't give any feedback of my own; as there is a delay on supply of the coil and waiting for mine to be sent in the mail.
Worse case scenario is purchasing the coil...
