On a painful note - the place I hired the detectors from didn't have any Doug Stone maps of the area ? Running a bit blind now

Hey guys, so we're at Slatey Creek # 3 at the moment - the queen d was a little hairy the other night but all good. Went out for a few hours yesterday south of #3 in an area off Wolfes Rdat the rough junction of three creeks. Interpreting the ground is so different when you're there! Trying to...

Thanks Goldierocks, your input has been invaluable - so you mention layering of maps etc - but I'm not really proficient in that side of things let alone using GIS sadly - is there a resource that can show the reefs/veings (gold bearing) around Creswick or am I best to use the Doug Stone maps?

So then, right place, right time, right angle of swing of the detector and they're some good sized stuff to still be found... I'm not looking for the welcome stranger but wouldn't mind a few grams :) I'm going to fully digest your posts Goldierocks and get back to you :P thank you! Can I...

My apologies I replued to your previous comments prior to reading this - you answered some of the questions for me in this :) So how can you find a reef in an area? so the gravel you refer to is that a thin layer of 'gravel' that is clearly differentiated from the soil around it? Also, if you...

Thanks goldierocks, The learning part is where I'm at - I definitely wouldn't call myself experienced - I've an understanding of the basics. I've only detected three times and did a training day with Coiltek. So the red dotted areas are ultimately gravel at depth with sometimes shallow...

Thanks Newbie, We're hoping that all of the rain etc will have moved things around a little... I guess the only way to find it is to be out there :P Were you detecting? did you find anything?

So what layer would one select to help determine where the reefs lie? or is that a fairly specialised interpretation process?

Hi Folks, A group of us are thinking about heading out Creswick way over the next week or so - just wondering if anybody has been out there of late? Any advice? Gold is where you find it of course but I'd happily accept any pointers. This is our third time out and so far we've found a lot of...

Did you work mainly up in the Jones reef area or the marked shallow workings? I think the shallow stuff seems to be closer to doubtful reef but I've been led to believe jones reef is over 7km long so doubtful may just be the continuation of jones reef.
