    I just researched the badge and it is a forage cap badge of the Victorian Military Forces, so it predates Federation. A very nice find!

    The badge appears to sport the crown of Queen Victoria, so it predates 1902, and the legend is Pro Deo Et Patria which translates into 'For God and Country'. It's a rather interesting piece.
