Clever idea, the problems I see with this is that it is a passive device, meaning that it is only effective if someone sees it. As a secondary rescue device I can't be beaten as it allows to exactly pinpoint your location to searchers after they have been made aware that you need rescuing. Depending on where you are going a primary rescue device is either an Epirb or an PLB or even a RFDS HF radio in your vehicle.

Ultimately it is going to get ridiculous, the amount of gear you are going to have to carry on your person. It's all well and good to say that something only weighs this many ounces or this many grams but by the time all that weight is accounted for you may not be able to carry your detector. Or you need to be built like a brick outhouse.
