My old next door neighbour had one. ( grand Cherokee)
Didn't do much off road in it, but when he did, he always made it back home on time.
Think they are OK, spare parts might be hard to get, but apart from that, they're pretty good value I think.
Maybe an older diesal hilux or surf would be suitable?
