Not exactly the same unit, but seems to have exactly the same screen setup and frequency as the Aldi detector.  There are so many of these Chinese detectors in the market at the moment, a lot of them most probably run the same electronics, frequency and basic setup, just in different packaging.  The Aldi detector itself is the exact same unit is marketed under all sorts of brands, including Aldi, Treasure Snoop, and Barska Winbest Elite Edition.

It's been just over two weeks since these "cheap and nasty Chinese imports" tounge in cheek of course, went on sale. How have the people that purchased them found them ?. I myself am hooked weather its a one or two dollar coin or a piece of lead its all excitement for me, I just wished I was closer to a beach where I could really have some fun.

Yes, on the beach in damp sand. Actually these are not a very good detector on the beach at all, much better for ovals and parks where the ground is harder and things can't get too deep. Could be the salt also. On max sensitivity they false all the time, back it off a bit and it should be a little better.

They only penetrate about 15 to 20cm, most coins in sand are a bit deeper than that I find.

My girl is a big fan of Aldi, and when I told her they had sold metal detectors in the past, she was straight onto it. It took them a while to reply to her email, but they have just confirmed that they will be selling detectors again this January. They didn't give an exact date or price, but it is the same unit, and in all stores til sold out.

I am thinking of buying one tomorrow...

How does the Aldi AdventureRidge compare to the Kogan Deep Target?
- prospectingaustralia.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?id=5245
- kogan.com/media/files/usermanuals/KAMETANDETA-A.pdf
- kogan.com/au/buy/deep-target-waterproof-metal-detector/

It's $25 cheaper including free postage, but I don't understand what differences there may be?

You can also get some Bounty Hunter models including postage on ebay for about $100.

ebay.com.au/itm/Bounty-Hunter-VLF-Metal-Detector-VLF2-1-/301237797698?pt=US_Metal_Detectors&hash=item46232c0342
ebay.com.au/itm/Bounty-Hunter-Gold-Digger-Metal-Detector-GOLD-/291185976802?pt=US_Metal_Detectors&hash=item43cc0965e2

Thank you.

Well there was a line up at my local one, they had about 20 detectors and they are all gone now.
I cant believe people were actually pushing other people out the way with their trolleys.

Anyhow i got one, not that it means a lot, its really only a toy compared to others but it will give my youngest something to do.

would have been ramming speed all the way too, I bet, just to get one,....Now there will be another group digging all over the place looking for Aldi trolley tokens(ha) before they even realise there is money in the parks.

Got mine today. Big lineup at the Aldi on opening and I was a little nervous. Walked quickly to the detectors only to find no one else was interested - too busy fighting over large piles of cheap camping gear. I grabbed 2 of the 8 and was first out of the checkouts.

Came back 1/2hr later. The other 6 were still there.

I hope that means no one in my area is interested in detecting parks smile

Hi all,

My first post here - discovered this site when researching the Aldi detector!
I'm very happy with it so far. I actually bought two and have not opened the second one.
I can't really justify hanging onto the second one, and will take it back under their 60 day policy.

Alternatively, if someone else has missed out on one, I'm located near Oakleigh station (Vic).
Box is still sealed and receipt is dated 04/01.

Cheers!

Mike

Hi Mike. Welcome to PA. Don't take the detector back. There will be many people after one. Maybe advertise it in the for sales section.

Cheers

Thanks Ramjet, I'll be trying it out in the Dandenong ranges this weekend.

Pretty scary how many rusty tent pegs and pieces of wire I've found buried at the beach. I wonder how many injuries these have caused?

A quick question about licenses - does relic hunting require a prospecting license? You don't really know what you're going to find until you find it.
If these detectors are known to be no good in the highly mineralised gold bearing areas, does this fact alone mean I can argue that I'm not prospecting?

Cheers!
