Dam it Redfin I should have just waited for your post. I am struggling with an inefficient tablet that does not have the luxury of sophisticated cut and paste. I live in the Mitchell Shire so I did a bit of research when the most recent stage three restrictions were applied to us and Metropolitan Melbourne. There was no specific definition given for outdoor recreation but rather a list that included golf, fishing, kayaking, archery even horse riding and surfing. Conditions were added that there would be appropriate distancing. No equipment sharing. Only one other person if they were not from your household. If sharing transport and not form the same house then masks were to be worn. If distancing could not be guaranteed masks were to be worn. I reasoned that if fishing was allowed then detecting would be also. I am on my own and able to satisfy all the conditions. Did I go detecting? Yes. Did I put myself or anyone else at risk? No. Did I break the law? No. I actually went twice. And no I am not one of these people bragging about sneaking around back roads driving half away across the state just to do what I want. I need to get up and about in the garden but maybe later in the day I will return and relate my story. Even without a definition I think you would be okay detecting, if you confined yourself to your local shire. You might need to print part of that document to take with you because there are lots of people including police who think that exercise is the only reason for leaving your home. This comes from the media broadcasting abbreviated outdated information and failing to do adequate research themselves. A map showing your destination would also help because the police officer or army person stopping you may not be a local. A polite, sincere, honest and understanding attitude will be something else that you should pack before heading out. Cheers Bob.
