[QUOTE="Matt80, post: 429311, member: 3461"] Ok so that was a bit of a long read.... But yeah most of us are already fully aware that the reasoning behind a lot of the bans we have are complete BS and that many environmental groups have a lot more lobbying power than we do and don't care about truth as much as they do money. Still we do still need to accept 'some' of the blame for things like dredging being banned as even though l agree it can be done in a positive way, there were still people doing it in a very damaging way that made everyone else look bad. I guess it is like banning all cars because some people drink drive, but our governments are controlled by the amount of votes they can get and money and cites are what gets governments the most votes and fossickers are too small a group for most politicians to take notice of. Even if we got the rural members on side it wouldn't matter as cities have all the power these days. Just look at the tree clearing laws in Queensland, the problem with clearing was in the SE corner, the votes are concentrated in the SE so the law gets passed to protect the trees, democracy won. Problem is that the laws also cover the rest of the state and most of the rest of the state disagreed with the laws but were told to shove it because all the people in the SE corner for some reason know how to manage our land better than we do. To add insult to injury, the laws to protect from tree clearing don't apply to mining or gas companies or to most government projects and most developers have enough council members in their pocket to get permission to clear as much as they want. So we have a concentrated population in cities telling the country how to manage the land because they are worried about what is happening in their own areas while doing nothing to really protect the issue they were worried about to start with and doing major damage to the rest of the state (including harm to the environment).
