I get as close to the ground with the coils as I can and don't scrub.

I use a paper based journal and add the coordinates from the GPS. Each has a simple reference number.... 1 2 3 4.... simple system. I then add the reference number to the maps I have. It sounds like a lot of work but it isn't; give it a go. One advantage is that paper can't crash!!!

Its been a while but finally got around to sharing the settings on my 5000 have been using in the GT.... I started detecting in Nov/Dec 2016. My original post was to help me and others compare settings, coils and general approach to detecting with a 5000. I promised to share my settings etc so...

The 5000 info has the same guideline wrt scubbing thr ground, ie try to be close but not quite touching

I have been running FP and only changed the gain and used inverted with a booster/speaker. Not used the DD yet. Ran the Evo and Elite swinging slow. Given results in Central Vic. The tracking was fixed. I'll note the settings and post them here tomorrow

I'm looking at getting a ICOM IC41pro 5w hand held and a Garmin GPS - I want to be safe and able to get in touch with anyone shoukd I need too The ICOM is around $300 on eBay and the Garmin around $650 do not a cheap combo! Anyone out there use ICOM hand held UHF units?
