Buy a good second hand unit and go halves with the Brother in law. Most detectors (well mine does) sit idle at least half the weekend. Combine the finds and when you have found enough gold go buy another one second hand.

Hey Goldpick how do you find the sensitivity of the Garrett over the TRX on small gold nuggets (~.25 gram)? I use the TRX for pinpointing SDC size nuggets in crevices and wonder if the Garrett would get better depth.

Why not start with the SDC and when you find enough gold, sell it and buy the 5000 as well so the missus can keep the sdc full time.
