    Mountain Bike?

I second the e-bike idea. Theyre pretty awesome and you can get many hours out of the battery - use the power to get you up the hills. Also, some of my friends do bike packing, which is mountain biking and camping. They tend to run a 1 wheeled trailer (which looks more like a skateboard deck)...

    Panning / crevicing in Mogo

Ahh - that might have been my problem. I went further upstream assuming it would be less worked, but I guess its less replenished instead. I didnt get much at all for a few 1/2 days.

    Panning / crevicing in Mogo

Hi guys, Im currently at Batemans Bay and I went panning at Mogo yesterday in Mogo Creek. I got bugger all to be honest, despite digging in places that would normally be a surety around Bathurst areas (eg inside bend crevices etc). Is it a waste of time planning around Mogo (ie heavily worked...

    Croc gold trap

I tried making my own as a drop-on attachement to my existing sluice. It worked OK, but I struggled to get enough water flow in the creek I was in. I ended up building a rock dam AND gaffa taping a garbage bag to the lower level and extended it out across the dam wall. That ened up being good...

Fluid bed clamp-on to existing sluice

Hey all, Ive been inspired to get into this fluid-bed thing, but didnt want another sluice lying around my garage. So I created a fluid bed sluice add-on for my existing sluice. Should work do you think? I was struggling to ensure the bottom level remained waterproof so that there is enough...

Chris Vo-gus trials the Croc Gold Trap Freshy

Agreed - I really enjoy the Vogus Prospecting video's. They're light hearted, fun and informative. He does a really good job!

Map of tassie? I wonder if we can tie that conversation in with the "bacteria can create gold nuggets" conversation ....

A new type of pan - the Pink Pan-ther.

Heres the Pink Pan-their And here is our take from Sunday.. The basic premise is to liquidate the dirt by shaking backward and forwards while under water (standard for a pan), then while still shaking backward and forward under water you slowly raise the whole thing until its vertical, at...

A new type of pan - the Pink Pan-ther.

My 10yo girl and I have had a few adventures now, trying to hunt for gold. We have accumulated more than 1g and less than 2g of alluvial crevice gold in 6 half day outings (my scales are not that great). Although she was enjoying the hunt, and especially enjoying the final clean-up, she was...

Got a little more yesterday from about 6 small buckets. The little spot that was giving up her gold was where I had my daughter dig for worms (she was fishing) - I said dig there for some worms and chuck the dirt into the bucket for me. Winner! This was along the upper Turon not far from the...

    Thoroughness of old timers

I find this pic online somewhere. Yeah, I know its only a painting, but assuming its depicting the actual scene at the time... 1. Maximum respect! Thats a lot of digging with hand tools! 2. I havent been to that particular spot - what does it look like today? How well has the river banks...

Gold Crevicing Tools information and questions

Its deep enough that my knuckles got a workout. The problem is the water - Im guessing the gold just drops in deeper as it gets washed when I try to get it out...

Gold Crevicing Tools information and questions

Nice - thanks all. I was thinking about getting one of those plastic water spray containers (the ones that have the hand pump on top of it to put compressed air into it), but reverse the valve and pump so that I can suck air out of the container. Once I have generated a sufficient vacuum I...

Gold Crevicing Tools information and questions

Hey guys, A couple of times now I have found a crevice that is quite narrow- too narrow for my favourite little digging tool (a 3 pronged garden tool with the outside prongs cut off), and yet I see gold in the crevice - I even picked a small bit out. To make matters worse, often there is some...

Hey AussieChris - I modified my light sabre! Im not saying my training is complete or Im full Jedi just yet, but the results from the same spot showed a lot more finer material. As a bad scientist, I changed two things at once. I lowered the riffle angle, and I swapped out the first section...

A catchup would be good! The spot my son and I were in on Sunday was pretty nice - saw massive fish in the water (assuming Carp - I reckon 80cm long), 5 piglets wandered out of the bush at us (which we scared away just in case their mum showed up), saw some old water races, and of course got...

    ⭐ Alluvial Show n Tell

AussieChris - water flow was ok, although I went out again on sunday and was struggling. I found a spot where the river was squeezed between some large bedrock and set it up there. I had to have a healthy flow to get the water to clear the material. I too am concerned about the height of the...

    ⭐ Alluvial Show n Tell

Got this from the Turon last weekend. About 4 or 5 small buckets. My 10yo girl designed a river sluice which we built together. Seemed to work ok although I think it was clogging up. Need to either tweak the sluice, tweak the water flow or tweak the rate she feeds it in.
