Hi all, thanks for all the replies....ok...so a pistol or a smooth bore rifle....diameter on the bottom is roughly.... 1 to 1.5 cm....hard to be more precise due to compression occurring during impact....again many thanks Christophe :)

Hi AtomRat, Had a look inside 'the dip', but no markings at all. There are also no ring marks around the outside, which seems common on the projectiles from the US....a bit of a mystery...found in an old horse paddock. Have been watching a lot of clips by this guy called aquachigger on Youtube...
