    It,s a pipe..

Very cool, I have some of my great grandfathers old pipes, still in top nick. Two old straight pipes, one with what looks like a bowl made from red cedar root that's gotten to dry and split, and another with a bowl covered in leather with very very fine stitching. Plus an old Sherlock Holmes...

    Weapon of choice

You need a pretty serious brushcutter for that type of work. I have a husky clearing saw, which is a fancy way of saying BIG ASS BRUSHCUTTER, but they retail for near 2 grand. Checkout biggerboyztoyz.com they had a couple of really good big ass brushcutters for under $500.

Old firearm, any ideas on age etc?

I cant tell from the OPs pics if the receiver is brass or steel, the majority of 1866 were brass receivered but I believe there is a steel receiver variant which is a bit rarer.

    anyone tried chichester dam area

Sorry about the dodgy link, I only have a crappy windows phone to access the net. Should work if you copy and past it into a search though. It basically talks about the gold mines at wangat, just below the dam, Angus and Coote actually setup a shop in dungog to purchase gold off the miners, so...

    anyone tried chichester dam area

My family hail from up around Chichester dam, my uncle told me a story of how during construction of the dam a heap river soil was dumped on what is now the old Chichester cricket pitch. He has an old old cheapo detector and says when he ran it over the cricket pitch itself it indicates there's...

    Snake Gaiters

Good advice, even a screaming chainsaw sometimes won't make them move. I've been whacked on the legs and feet so many times by snakes while working I've lost count. Heavy boots and chainsaw chaps have saved me so far though, we did have a guy get bitten by a brown and nearly died on us.
