    Alluvial beach gold Vic

I believe beach gold was found at Sandy Point/Waratah Bay (but I reckon you'd be digging a really big wet muddy deep hole). Foster was the site of a rush in the 1860s with alluvial and quartz mining and also Turtons Creek in the same area for alluvial.

    Reedy Creek Beechworth water levels

I was there over the weekend. You'd have no problems now where the creek bed widens out a bit, but my usual spot was still flowing too aggressively to worry about.

    nick cave Jan 2017

Good one Davent, I've seen Nick Cave a few times. With the Boys Next Door, the Birthday Party and the Bad Seeds. Jeez I'm showing my age! Best one was at the Big Day Out (Melb. Showgrounds, '94 I think) with a thunderstorm and wind going crazy and Cave prowling the stage like a demon. I'll be...

    Reedy Creek Beechworth water levels

Heh, Jethro. I got that off the Beechworth community FB page. I haven't been to Reedy for a few weeks, and won't till the ground dries out a bit. The Feb 2011 rain event mentioned had water flowing down my back yard, cascading ankle deep into the garage/workshop. It cut gutters in my driveway 6"...

    Reedy Creek Beechworth water levels

Not bad for one pan Little Gem Hunter, just be careful where you go everyone. The local RACV guy *won't* assist anyone who's bogged in the Woolshed. BTW there's a push on to get Woolshed Rd sealed, which may or may not be a good thing...

    Reedy Creek Beechworth water levels

There's a bit of water going down Reedy at the moment. Should stir things up a bit and wash some more alluvial into the system. :) https://vimeo.com/185093222

Blue Bowl Concentrator information and questions

The trick is to classify, classify and classify some more. The finest mesh for me is pantyhose loosely stretched over a jar. Add the concentrate a teaspoon at a time and you should get almost everything. In the mean time save all the black sand you've processed and repeat the processed and do...

Myrtleford, Bright area information and questions

Gappa44 there's a huge amount of info out there about the Morse's Creek/Wandiligong gold fields, dredging around Harrietville, the Buckland etc. You said you were from Dederang so you could try closer to home 'just to look see'. Bruarong is an old mining town (now long gone) that serviced the...

Woolshed Falls this week. The flood will stir things up a bit. https://www.facebook.com/indigorealestateaustralia/videos/663878180429331/

    Eldorado/Beechworth

You mean something like what I scraped out from under a stonkin great big boulder in the centre of the creek bed? You can also have a crack at the designated gemstone area in the Warby Ranges near Wangaratta For accommodation try here: http://www.explorebeechworth.com.au/

    Classifying

Definitely wet. Make sure you break up any clay and wash all of it off the rocks etc. You'd be surprised how much flour gold you'll catch. Bonus: you'll be able to easily see any gems or crystals in the classifier

    Crevices Eldrado

You'd be surprised where that fine gold ends up on Reedy. The trick is to find the crevices and rocky bits that have been covered with sandy overburden.

    Gold sluicing around Albury

PMAV (North East) meets at the Yack Senior Citizens next to Memorial Park, 3rd Wed of the month IIRC. If you're on Facebook join this closed group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/679187868818277/ Lots of good local info and member meetups. Excellent local advice, tips and tricks.

    Turbo pan.any good?

I prefer ye olde steel pan, but that's just me as I classify and just pan down to black sand in the field. I'll always get the flour gold out of it no problems. I have the 10" and 19" turbo pans and as already stated they work fine on gravelly material but sandy or clayey wash clogs the riffles...

    panning help

ben2363 I'm doing something like you at the moment but my approach is a little different. First up I've been working the same section of creek 'X' now for the past 2 years so I know it's rich in gold and I know the type of gold and where it's coming from. In this case private property. I...

    wasps, wasps everywhere!

If they're Euros just bait the b*stards with a plate of mince meat and some ant&wasp dust. They'll be attracted to it and carry the poison back to the nest. Should work in the field too. If they're paper wasps just leave them alone. If one does zap you it tickles for 5 or 10 minutes only. I've...
