Found this Sat while testing out my crazy idea for a square handled pick. I thought it was ironic I had to break a rock open to get it :)

Anyone made their own gold pick and advise?

Yes you're right with the rubber :) Sometimes the handle wants to turn on impact, which makes the corner of the rhs bang into the base of the index finger. So I think round steel would have been better than rhs, although; unpadded, I think it would still turn too easily (steel is slippery) if it...

Anyone made their own gold pick and advise?

    No I didn't preheat, TD.

Anyone made their own gold pick and advise?

Some nice looking wooden handles on the picks above. I couldn't find a decent bit of wood myself, so decided to weld on some 25 sq rhs to a piece of plough disc. It feels comfortable in the hand and offers a good grip. I'll try it out the next couple of days and see how it goes - weight, comfort...

    Today I BOUGHT

Today I got my digital scales 30g x .001. Payed 27 bucks. Yeah I know a bit expensive, but I just couldn't stand to not know the weight of any tiny nugget I find, and I reckon if I find something over 30g, well I can afford 12 bucks or so for a 500g set. Now my mission is to wear them out :)

    Camping and charging detector batteries

Thank's for the answers all, and sorry about the 'handyman' type question Condor. I started out describing how I do it at the moment, and then wondered if I was damaging the car battery. Going to see if I can get it up to 12.6 now :)

    Camping and charging detector batteries

Don't know if this helps, but until I figure out what I want to do, I've been charging 4 x 5000 mAh batteries from my car battery, which is: 620 CCA, 120 RC, using the lighter socket. The car battery has 12.3V before starting and 12.15V when finished. Takes about 10 hours to charge the 4...

    Intro

Thank's guys. I found the post by Au on the Eureka, what a lot of time that will save. Exactly the info I need at this stage, so I been reading up on that, and with the comments above from MJB I'm as keen as mustard to get out there. However, much to my displeasure I believe research is the key...
