Going to try my hand at sapphires..

Would have been a spinout if we had haha Alot of old friends have since moved on which is a shame as i remember playing near old mines on some of their properties as a kid, no idea who owns them now. I don't suppose you know what happened to the crusher that used to be out the front of the...

    Current fuel prices.

was 1.10 in gympie when i left, 1.19 in gin gin In gladstone at the moment and it is 1.25 yet the next town over it is 1.10 :/ Been advised not to buy any fuel in gladstone as the servos here are a blatent rip. It is pretty much more economical to drive to boyne for it and even if it does ending...

    Prospecting, Fossicking and Detecting Books/Magazines

On this topic, does anybody know where one can take a look at Gold & Ghosts Volume 3? I'm very lucky that Volume 4 still exists in my local library and hasn't been stolen yet, havn't had much luck finding an existing copy of volume 3.

    Prospecting, Fossicking and Detecting Books/Magazines

Tathradj nailed it, google is your friend. I did find 'Prospecting for Gold' by Ion Idriess compelling when i stumbled onto a copy once.

What do you do with your Alluvial finds?

A bit of bought paydirt is a great way to learn how the gold behaves when starting out. I would also recommend mixing it with a bit clayey (is that a word?) dirt from the garden/creek as well as the bought paydirt tends to be clean washed gravel and alot easier to pan effectively than the stuff...

What do you do with your Alluvial finds?

I keep all of the nicest pieces for my collection, the rest I either sell to buy more gear or put it somewhere and forget about it haha found multiple vials of small amounts of gold <1g when i recently moved house. Comes in handy as a barter item when you are doing it tough also ;)

    21oz's found @ Forsayth NQ.

I can't believe the attitude of some of the people in this thread. I think perhaps NQ would be better off if some of you guys kept on believing there is no gold there. I for one am incredibly thankful that there are property owners willing to let prospectors on to have a go whether they are...

Going to try my hand at sapphires..

Small world that it is. I'm 27, if you are anywhere near my age we might already know each other :P Calliope is a small place, well it was... It seems to have lost that country town feel in the last 10 years or so. I can hardly recognize it in places now.

Are the properties at forsayth pay to play or do you have to know someone?

Thanks for the replies and information guys, much appreciated. In regards to the heat, I currently live in north queensland and to me 30C is prime digging weather, I actually get quite cold in anything under 25c. I'm a warm weather creature :P I am in Gladstone as well at the moment holed up...

what are the funny names your pets have had?

The dog I ahve now is named Heidi/Hidey The first night I got she went missing before i had named her for a night and a day. I strongly suspect some kids were responsible given the awkwardness of the lady who 'found' her. While she was missing my roommate made a joke and said "well, you are...

    ⭐ Alluvial Show n Tell

I really liked your gold yobskin, hell I like all gold but variety is the spice of life haha Next time I am in gympie it will be hard to decide between having a dig on the downstream side of that bank or go do some real prospecting and look for something a little different. The amount of...

Going to try my hand at sapphires..

I was planning to to take my kayak up the calliope river for a week and do a bit of gold prospecting but the nasty weather and prospect of flooding has forced me to reconsider my plans, pretty disappointed but such is life. Instead I thought i might head to the central queensland gem fields and...
