    Have you ever noticed?

Minelab cover this briefly in their knowledge base article, page 13, signal strength - http://www.minelab.com/__files/f/11043/KBA_METAL_DETECTOR_BASICS_&_THEORY.pdf It is more or less related to how the signal propagates through the medium to the target and back again, so yes the distance and...

Whites PI Gold Detector Gold Nugget Finds

My mate tells me it was a 0.09 gram. Actually a little chunkier than it looks in the photo on the coil. It is the nugglet on the far right in the scale shot. You can see it isn't as flat as the others. The settings used were: Gain around 12-1 o'clock, threshold around 12-1 o'clock...

Electronics Nerds and Copying a Detectors Control Box

I think you would find that quite a substantial amount of the cost is in the hardware. Lithium batteries, charger, vacuum formed coil housings, custom enclosure etc etc. You are correct in that the electronics cost stuff all and I suspect depending on the brand of detector the code can be quite...

Whites PI Gold Detector Gold Nugget Finds

So that Luke doesn't feel like the only one at the party, here are some finds made by my prospecting partner with a TDI Pro Oz. The first 3 were (very) hard won with the NF Sadie coil, next 2 were picked up with the Miner John 7x11 folded mono. You can see that that the MJ coil is still in mint...

Whites PI Gold Detector Gold Nugget Finds

Hard luck, I found that piece that Mbasko linked not too far away from where you took that picture of your coil ;) Also as a side note (and being somewhat of an electronics nerd) I have taken some o'scope measurements of the sadie coil that I found that piece with compared to the miner johns 7...

    Coiltek Coils Whites TDI

If you search eBay in the UK for "Miner John Coils" there is a 7"x11" mono available for about $185AUD. Those coils are made for the TDI series by the same guy who does the razorbacks I believe. Haven't used one myself but as Zuke says and from what I have read elsewhere they are a good choice...

    GPZ7000 release, questions and information

Miners Den have released a sneak peak of the GPZ 7000 on their site, looks to be the same info as the full page ad. I would post the link but haven't got 10 post yet :/

    ⭐ Gold Detecting Show'n Tell

It is fairly porous and has a little Quartz inclusion that is a bit hard to make out in the photo. TDI did well (and my ears I guess!) to pick it up. Was probably around an inch down after I took the first scrape to get rid of the organic surface debris.

Building the Kreekeeda 300 and 250

Definitely a handy skill to have, takes some practice though. Had the same idea myself a while ago and pulled the trigger on a Cigweld Weldskill 200 AC/DC (TIG and stick), paid around $1600 from memory. Did a lot of research and it was by far the best equipped unit for the price - and best...

    ⭐ Gold Detecting Show'n Tell

Took a bit to separate this little piece from the pile. Found with a TDI Pro swinging an 8x6 Sadie, gain at a fraction under 9 o'clock, threshold @ 11 o'clock, GB @ 8-9 and running low conductor (smooth threshold, low and slow  ). Ballarat region ;)

    G'day from Vic

Cheers guys. Can be a case of knowing too much sometimes, some of those posts over in the small scale mining section, well... :o dwt - "on second thought we ought to mesh this section. Don't blame me, those D&B buggers really dropped the ball and smashed this heading" ;)

    G'day from Vic

Hi there, Firstly a shout out to any FIFO workers out there, been working in the industry for a while myself. Have worked as a Geotechnical Engineer in open pit and underground (narrow vein and caving) mining Gold, Copper and Iron Ore (not all at once ;) ). For those that are wondering what...
