    Best faceting prepolish lap

Its not just about diamond size, its more about the things you add to the polish as well as what you are polishing. i make a full flexable kit now and have stopped making polishing compounds in jars. the process needs to be flexible to cover different varieties of gems and different types of...

Help regarding copper laps and other questions

Hi Debbie, I make tin laminated and solid laps, type metal(making some next week) as well as bronze laps solid cast and a new special quartz polishing lap. I also make special polishing kits which make a crappy lap work good again. My first machine was a grave left hand and they can be cleaned...

    Best faceting prepolish lap

I have been making laps by annealling an 8 inch copper lap and machining out the centre. i then pour my special alloy in the centre and press it at 300 tonne. this makes it a very compact polishing section ideal for sapphire. You can substitute type metal or tin and pressing is optional. then...

    Faceting machine

I was speaking to Doug a few weeks ago and he has ordered a new machine as his is now 8 years old and has a few very minor accuracy issues. But keep in mind Doug is an absolute perfectionist in fact if you look that up in the dictionary its says see Doug. He did ask for a modification of the...

    Faceting machine

I forgot about the halls machine. Peter is a brillant manufacturer and its top notch. Has limitations for a cutter like me, but I know a few commercial cutters who have this and like it. you will have to wait a bit but just look at gallic prospecters work. It says it all.

    Faceting machine

I have a GF4 reasonably new and its a little sluggish but if you have seen how I cut and polish then that's understandable. I have a student who has a facetron and I like the machine but it has a few drawbacks. Its a very high base and has a very under powered motor and seems to run a bit hot. I...

    Diamond sintered laps.

The sintered disc is soft bronze so rotating or sharp corners introduced to the lap can scratch more like a micro gouge. This does lead to a scratchy finish and will then need a redressing to restore the lap. you can use a harder sintering metal like a cobalt bearing powder. But the harder the...

    Polishing Troubleshoot

That happens when you out sourse your manufacturing to somewhere with lower standards. I have done a side by side with an American cutter who has a lap of mine and they are both very close in performance and finish. The difference is they claim a lot of things like ten times the concentration of...

    Polishing Troubleshoot

Ok heres what a pro does to get a good polish. 3000-8000 pre-polish on a special alloy(you can get this lap from Gemcuts, Robilt and Glen Huntley QGRS) Its a very low scratch lap made here in Australia. The compound I use is my own special formula mixed with 3 drops of aniseed oil and 1 drop of...

    wax

Send me a PM and I will send a PDF of my dopping with wax document. Ive also been developing a few new polishing compounds to take the frustration out of polishing. Barney might be dropping by to test a few of them out. Green and red wax is a no go. That's last century stuff for faceting black...
