Little ingot from last season's crushing

Ha ha - just like your namesake! About 40kg. The rocks were taken from a section of adjoining bedrock from where I had found a small piece of reef (there's a vid [a bit long] on this forum somewhere showing some of that), so they were in proximity to a known find. My guess was that there would...

Little ingot from last season's crushing

Hi Folks, the insulating material is refractory wool - just doesn't burn at really high temps. Doesn't even get really hot on the outside. Normal house insulation will burn/melt at these temps - do not use. Line the jam tin sides and base, cut a circle of the wool for the lid, then cut a circle...

Little ingot from last season's crushing

Happy will the results of this little activity. About 20g of fines from a couple of bags of rock. Crushed with the Compact Crusher, panned and then melted. Good use for a jam tin I reckon. Happy days!

Update on the New, Compact Crusher

Hi folks, I have been using the crusher for some time now and have put through a fair amount of rock. I had some queries regarding the crusher and the process I use, so have posted a YT vid I made about it, now that the topic is open again. The sound quality is pretty average and I'm no Cecil B...

    Quality time with Dolly

I reckon you'd definitely end up with crushed nuggets, mate.

Aah. Just looked it up and see what you mean. Could be useful but I reckon I would get more attack with my 5lb hammer and a pointed bit. Slow, but works OK on small sections at a time. The bit I use has a rubber collar which helps protect my hand if I get tired and miss - a good idea! Thanks for...

Do you mean like a post banger with the handles on the side (long upside-down dolly pot)?

    Quality time with Dolly

The top handful was left as whole pieces - I didn't crush them any further, along with some more smaller bits. I will clean them up later on as it's actually really shiny gold and should look a treat. There is some small quartz in it but that's OK. Trouble is, because it's reef gold you loose a...

Yup silver - and wider I reckon. Unfortunately the digging part is done - it's solid bedrock with a hammer and cold chisel. Hard too.

It was actually a smallish lump about the size of a fist, in bedrock, and some of the surrounding rock/soil. In my excitement I reckon I left some behind (too fine to detect) so I guess I'll just have to go back and get the rest, dammit!

    Quality time with Dolly

Had a great lazy Sunday afternoon with my (grown) son dollying up and panning off a little piece of reef I bought back from the last trip. Helps the fix when I'm away from the goldfields, but makes me more keen to get back. Got to extend the feeling somehow!

    Help with rock identification, please?

Thanks, Burden - I appreciate your time in having a stab at this one. On this and another forum it's had over 300 views with only a few ideas - seems to have us all a bit stumped. I have a couple of experienced geo mates who I will show it to to see if they know. If anyone is interested I'll...

    Help with rock identification, please?

Atom - has similarities to both, but is not quite the same. It may be quite weathered though. Martin - WA 5ft - the actual gold is precisely at ihfjoinijcwiofaoijmwjjw, bugger, my keyboard is playing up again silver - yup, it's pretty strange, haven't seen anything like it in the fields before...

    Help with rock identification, please?

Hi Folks - Im hoping a rockhound or geo can help me identify the type/genesis of the rock in the pics. It comes from an old, small mine that produced 768g/t at the turn of the century. Its not the actual ore, but is in association with it. The actual gold they were chasing is in quite clear...

Thanks, Goldpick. I'll check out the Coiltek MB site - and that should also bring up 10! Cheers

    Lightweight battery

Just to let anyone interested know - I bought the Reeds EQ Spirit. It is a real bonus not having to be connected to the detector. Works well with both ext speaker and with the Koss headphones. Battery length and recharging times are very good. Simple 3-step operation to turn it on, 1-step to...

Update on the New, Compact Crusher

Hi Ryan - sorry for bumping an old post - where can I get hold of one of your crushers? I've searched everywhere but with no luck. Cheers
