    ⭐ Gold Detecting Show'n Tell

Unable to get to WA this winter. I have been trying hard around my central west nsw region, but its tough after doing alot of wa seasons where some decent patches or a good couple slugs usually pop up. For 7 weeks work i have averaged just under an ounce a week. Going very slow with zed over old...

    A Strange Rock. Thoughts?

See a few bits of quartz and a range of minerals. Almost 99 its not a meteorite. To be honest i would smack it and see what its innards look like. RDD

4500 New or Old?? What is best?

I have an 4500, bought the day they were released. I would never sell it and its a backup for my seven. New 4500,s i have seen in action seem as good as the early ones, despite unproven posts on facebook etc from time to time saying older ones are better. From the 4500 on all the minelab gold...

    ⭐ Gold Detecting Show'n Tell

Have not been on the forum for heaps sorry. Just before isolation i got a few nice crystalline pieces from 1.4 to 3.9 grams in size. Love the shapes, busting to get back to the spot. Suffering bad, not being able to get to wa and my lease. Cheers RDD https://i.imgur.com/RJ3vCQ0.jpg...

Hill End / Tambaroora Area NSW information and questions

HillEnd is a hard place to find gold. Over many many weekends and numerous week long trips detecting all day and after scotches, for half the night over the 1000,s acres of crown land covered in mines, surfaced areas and diggings i would barely average an ounce a week. And i know madtuna did not...

NAPFA General News, Member Information & Updates

The weekend was great. Showground camp was good with hot showers and the 60th party group for Gordo from sofala was behind the paviilion out of the way. ( did not impact us). Some gold was found by a few, friendships renewed, gold stories told and the campfire gatherings were too good. I was to...

Minelab GPX 4500 information and questions

Hi mick, welcome aboard. I have had my 4500 since its release day. I have found more gold with it and i have had many of minelab,s gold detectors. Its a back up now and the zed is catching it fast in terms of gold recovered. My advice is to read the manual cover to cover a couple times with the...

    ⭐ Gold Detecting Show'n Tell

Got back home a month ago to the tablelands after a couple months in the Pilbara. I have had withdrawals so it was good to get out for a day swing a few km from home. The snakes are already thick as thick where i detect....rocky creeks, thick grass and bush...a bit swampy. I swear i will...

    Marble Bar , Nullagine WA

The Nullagine caravan park is now going to stay and the amenities block fixed up. The dongas are going though. EP shire really stuffed up on the decizion to make it a free camp and common sense is starting to show up thanks to people speaking up for town. Nullagine needs a van park to bring in...

    Marble Bar , Nullagine WA

Geology Travel maps is the app you need. It keeps the high res satellite images on the app when you are remote, away from connection. Just zoom in on the area you are going to when you do have reception. You can get by on pending ground around nullagine/marble bar area with a 2 wheel drive but...

Handy App. To Know Where You Are On 40E Lease Sites. W.A.

Great app Peter. Early on we asked for graticular block overlays and things and David was quick to add them. Its our go to app for tenements and navigation with the moving map on satellite image layer. Cheers RDD

    WA Checklist

You need to do your research (lots of it) before you go and line up heaps of pending ground and 40e permits for a couple live EL leases. You need an app like australian geology travel maps that will show up to date leases and google earth images offline...so you know where you are. Also need a...

    ⭐ Gold Detecting Show'n Tell

Had a good trip to WA. Little chance to catch up on forum during trip. Shout out to Balmain/Hill End Bob for his hospitality and showing me around Leonora. Gold a bit light on, 11 ounces for trip. Nice spiderweb gold in ironstone, about 10 gram gold content https://i.imgur.com/kDLKkLT.jpg...

New Minelab Detector - any time soon?

Because the equinox is new (feb18)and selling like big macs, i dont think minelab would be audacious enough to smack equinox buyers in the head with a new high end relic only detector so soon. I suspect the detector will be a high end multi purpose detector that will be excellent on gold and...

    ⭐ Gemstone & Mineral Show n Tell

Found a nice large crystal vugh while detecting in rough country. We dug down a couple feet and got hundreds of smaller crystals, some with solid green chlorite crystals within the base of the clears. Need crowbars and chisels to get down around the deeper material next visit...

Great Offline Prospecting Moving Map App.

I have recently been trying a brilliant moving map app called Australian Geology Travel Maps. For iphone. It is an offline ( uses phone gps, no phone reception needed) moving map app that lets you use a huge range of geologic and topo maps from any state that are easilly downloaded. Or configure...

    Is this a meteorite?

Hi Moj, i was probably a bit ruthless. Get it tested there are some meteorites with unusual mineralogy and it could be one But the desert glaze on the surface and the iron weathering skin on it with fresher lighter material inside just doesnt look right Cheers rdd

Anybody researched impact sites then gone out looking for meteorites?

All the key strewnfields like mundrabilla, wiluna and mount egerton are reguarly raided by people. Some yanks even do trips illegally find and export illegally and then sell them on ebay. Strewnfield location maps litter the net.
