Blue Hill Quarry, Vulcan State Forest Oberon NSW

And further to this they're apparently assessing Sapphire Bend for the same reasons. I know I've certainly seen plenty of unfilled holes and rubbish out there. Might be off limits soon by the sound of it

Family friendly fossicking- Yamba to Inverell

Pick a spot round Glen Innes for a stop it's your first feasible option over the mountains (Aroona Glen and Bullock Mountain Homestead are paid camps where you can also fossick their creeks if you're wanting an overnight spot). Otherwise just have a look at a map at any bridge crossings around...

    Gemstones Around the Snowys

Yeah mate some amazing camps down there! I can't wait to get down there again, one of my favourite parts of the state for sure! The navy strength gin at Wild Brumby in Crackenback is enough to bring me back, even scenery/gems/trout aside hahah

Fossicking for Gemstones - Tips for Newbie

Tool-wise the only other thing I carry that I recommend is a 5ft fencing bar, makes breaking up tough ground 1000% easier than farting around with a shovel or pick, smash the ground up with the fencing bar then shovel and sieve to your hearts content!

Nambucca Valley Agates - anyone found others?

Hey all I was out bass fishing in the Nambucca Valley over the weekend and stumbled across a few clear bits of quartz and then this carnelian agate. Wondering if anyone has any more info or has found other agates nearby? I assume it's washed down from the crescent (part of/of similar age...

NSW LGA's becoming fossicking districts - Update

Can anyone shed some light on what is special about land classed as a fossicking district? Is it just that you can fossick on land that had an exploration lease on it?

Wanted - 8" (ish) Flat Lap

Opal mining: If It Glows Do I Want It

short answer, safety aside, is that only some opal glows under a specific UV wavelength (please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think 265nm?) and it will only work on white opal (again please correct if wrong)

Rains reveal 834-carat sapphire in Queensland Gemfields

Hey LW, can you send a link to the video of this one? I'm pretty sure this is the one that was found by a teenager a couple of years ago and it's just been reposted recently by a 3rd party. I was at BB over the weekend and someone mentioned it to Bill and he has no clue about any giant ones...
