    How to practice panning?

If you use a 1/4 or 1/8 inch sieve to get rid of the larger material then I find its heaps quicker especially if there is only fine gold in the area. Just make sure you don't over fill the pan and give the pan a good shakeup three quarters full of water to get the gold down. As you become more...

beechworth Has anyone heard of black sand creek.

if you are interested in chasing diamonds there have been a few diamonds found in the area the largest of which was found at black sand creek. There were more found(and documented) though in reedy creek as well as Wooragee creek and as Swright mentioned probably more gold in reedy.

I contacted them and apparently the book will not be reprinted but they recommended another book "Gemstones in Victoria". They didn't have a copy but I ended up getting one from the CSIRO.

    Newbie to Reedy creek

Hi Dingo I was out that way the other day ..creek only barely running but plenty of fine stuff. I was keeping an eye out for another forum member SWright but didn't end up catching up. Wals' Hi-banker Specifications

I'm looking at my current highbanker build as I'm interested in chasing a few sapphires in the new year. It's currently 900mm long and 265mm wide. I'd like to try the aluminium mesh and the bred crate as opposed to the riffles I have now for the sapphires. If I were to add an extra 600mm to the...

    Advice wanted please!

If there are creeks in the general area that your looking at then panning in the right areas should reveal a bit of color(gold). Using a sluice or highbanker will allow you to process more gravel/dirt than panning and hence you should get more gold. If the area has been reef mined or larger...

    Mineral and gem identification books

I'm also interested in a rock tumbler. I have a vibrating tumbler for rifle cases. Would this be suitable for tumbling some rounded stones to just polish up. What sort of media would I need to use?

    Mineral and gem identification books

G'day guys I'm getting quite interested in finding some of these gems and was wondering if anyone has any books that they would recommend for gem and mineral identification. I've been trying to find a copy of gems and minerals of Victoria but so far have been unsuccessful. Anyone got any ideas.

Eldorado / Beechworth area information and questions

gold all along the creek but sometimes you will have to dig down. Creek turns into a raging river when in full flood and this redeposits a lot of the gold. Ive seen quite a few highbankers down from the crossing at kangaroo hill. Plenty of camping along there. Probably best to do some test pans...
