Do you think the TDL SL is the same as the TDI pro just a lighter version ?

Thank you for all the test results and time to put this on here. I bought a used Whites tdi sl and after I got it one of my friends told me that I had made mistake as it would not perform good in the Goldfields of California. But after reading this post makes me think different.
