Can somebody help me identify this?

Maybe, but silver oxidises dark and quite quickly, plus it isn't too hard. A guy out bush reckons it's lead for sure, I haven't seen hard brittle lead before, but I'll hit it with a propane torch and see what happens tomorrow arvo, we will see what happens :Y: Might buy some cheap dealer...

Can somebody help me identify this?

Steel is only 4-4.5 though, so a hardened knife would be slightly harder. Aluminium is usually more ductile, also it isn't hard. Rhodium maybe?

Can somebody help me identify this?

Almost looked past it as a hot rock, but the detector insisted it was metallic, break the crust off with a hammer lo and behold, it is in fact a metal, obviously quite brittle, and I don't think it's lead/aluminium/silver bevause, well for one it's brittle, and it's damn hard, I can barely...

    ⭐ Gold Detecting Show'n Tell

Trecked a few hundred metres through the scrub off a rocky mountain trail, pretty remote ground, and some beautiful scenery. This is a known gold area, so I thought I'd try my luck with the detector. So, turns out this spot must have been a lot more popular some time ago. I hate it when...

NSW Highbanking - what is the current state of play?

Australian legislators legislate on a sole fundamental principle: the profound fear that somebody, somewhere, might be happy.

    Australian History

Blimey you're onto it! Newcastle indeed. Bonus fact : in 1890 the deepest vertical shaft in the world was at Richmond Vale colliery (Hunter Valley) at 609 ft. Over to you Megsy :D

NSW Highbanking - what is the current state of play?

I have thought of this! :D All you'd need is a decent decline in the creek, a piece of guttering (or a decent sized siphon hose) and you're high banking! Shame that kinda defeats the purpose of a highbanker. I like the mains idea haha!

NSW Highbanking - what is the current state of play?

Cheers & thanks for clearing that up Tath, that's absolutely Orwellian, but I'm not surprised, the environmental inquisition will persecute anyone for heresy at the slightest inkling of dissent. I agree that we can and maybe even ought to highbank in secret, but picking us off one at a time us...

NSW Highbanking - what is the current state of play?

Clause 6.1 insists no use of powered implements, but this is later clarified in 7.1, where they explicitly state in reference to: "excavate" Edit: just in case anybody is worried the highbanker is safe and sound in the pool for the time being. I don't intend to go highbanking until this...

NSW Highbanking - what is the current state of play?

I hate to start one of these when there's a great thread already, but I couldn't find the info I wanted so here goes: Does the highbanking ban also apply to private property, or only state forests? If that's the case, surely I can remove my allowed 10kgs of "mineral bearing material" and run...

Is there a reason gold's so rare?

I feel your pain, I drove 300kms out to some old workings this weekend, 90kms of dirt, boggy holes, steep desents, near impassable climbs, I spent half the day chainsawing logs off the road just to get in there (anyone who goes to the cells can thank me later) Finally I set up the sluice, ran...

    Wollombi (NSW)

Well, after all this I might still make a trip down the old convict road and pan every creek I find, gold fever is a hell of a thing.

    Wollombi (NSW)

That is awfully true! In regards to Wollombi, I'm faily familliar with the area, and have never found a spec, the geological surveys concurr: The running theory is that the whole hunter valley was glacial back in the day, most of the minerals were effectively dredged out to sea, or are too...
