    Beekeeping

Sadly my beekeeing exploits have suffered a MAJOR setback. The Lismore flood trashed EVERYTHING I had except a couple of computers, a basic set of tools (all the fancy stuff is knackered), and a the road bag I had on hand after bringing a truck back from Mt Gambier a few hours before the flood...

    Beekeeping

Excellent! Your mini-frames are a great idea and you've got it working really well. The jars are equally ingenious.

    Beekeeping

lolol reminds me of a couple of the girls I've known in the past :brokenh: :D Yes, the learning is great. I also really like the HUGE array of activities required to make it all work (when you get tired of doing one thing you just switch to another on the list); Making stands Looking for...

    Beekeeping

@Jaros; You might find this link useful https://brisbanebeekeepers.club/ @Doug; lolol This forum site never ceases to amaze me. The last place I would have expected to find very useful beekeeping info was a prospecting site! But then, I suppose some of us are just naturally curious and willing...

    Beekeeping

Doug., isn't it? Brrn out checking and feeding bees. Home for a pit-stop and then out again. All appears well but a more experienced beekeeper, like Les, would probably spot things that need addressing. Neertheless, the girls are flying and bringing back HEAPS of multi-coloured pollen. Not sure...

    Beekeeping

:-) Up to page 10 now and really enjoying it and learning a lot. Thanks! But now I have to go to bed 'cos it looks like I'll have about a two hour window to drive all over the place and feed my bees in the morning before a predicted storm. lolol It will probably not turn out as forecast at all...

    Beekeeping

Great work, Les. I haven't been on here for a couple of years but the site came up while I was looking for an Australian beekeeping forum. I became a beekeeper recently myself. I have ten colonies going now (between three sites) and have been busy building and painting another set of boxes...

    🎄Merry Christmas / Xmas!

Cheers folks. Great to hear from you all! @STC, well kinda. I went driving semis up and down the East coast for a while, and then Greyhounds all over the place too. Now I'm doing airport transfers and enjoying it very much. Very much wishing I could be out there prospecting though. May...

Hot rocks. Worth keeping and crushing?

And all this time I thought 'hot rocks' were what was happening to me every time I got chatting with the cutie at the tobacco shop. (The thought of them being crushed makes my eyes water.)

    gday from north brissie

I have to agree. The days of strolling through virgin bushland pocketing shjloads of nuggets along the way are long gone. Bugger! Of course most of it is still there, but just not within easy reach. I'm no expert, but in my experience it's easier to spend shjtloads more money looking for the...

    Lismore Gemfest this coming weekend

Apparently some of the vendors complained that they had stuff stolen from their displays last year.

    Lismore Gemfest this coming weekend

It's looking to be good weather! Yay! With regards to thieves; I believe some pretty serious measures have been taken. I'll be there too, with eyes open and cameras blazing.

    Dalmorton area

Did a quick one day trip earlier this week. Nice area. Brought a bit of stuff home :-) Will go back for a longer period sometime very soon. Rough but good country!

    Communications

I really miss 27 megs on the highways these days. These UHF things have lousy range. With a decent antenna it was common to be getting road info from 5~20Ks+ ahead. Also, the UHF's are supposed to have less noise, but I have much more trouble with them. Maybe I just need better gear.

Open Street Maps (OSM) .pbf files

Yes, I did have a quick look at that this morning but wasn't too sure if it was current or good info. and so I posted my questions to try to find out what people 'on the ground' use. That's a good page though, and well worth a reread (which I'll be doing). Thanks :-)
