Thanks mate. I wonder if it would perform better on gold with a different coil? I know stuff all about gold prospecting.

I'll be out bush looking for gold with the Nox 800 for 5 days this month. Your test results are depressing!

Hey Prooz, I plan to clean out the entire Marlin Coast! What I really want to do is head out to Georgetown and look for some gold! I like your profile picture nugget.

First haul after about 45 minutes at Yorkeys Knob Beach with a working Equinox. Really looking forward to learning more about using this machine and prospecting in general. Goes way deeper than the go-find and the pin point feature on it works really well. I'm impressed and feel like I've made a...

    Minelab Equinox tips and questions

Minelab Bendigo confirmed the unit I sent back is not picking up targets, with a suspected faulty coil. The replacement should be on the way today, arriving here about the 15th. Talk about snail mail!

Wasn't going crazy this morning (go figure??) but still wouldn't react to coin air tests. Checked the connection and tried it down the park, no joy. Spoke with Minelab and at their request have posted the unit back to them. They are refunding my postage and are sending me a different unit. No...

Thanks Northeast, your post gives me hope everything will be sweet. I will double check the connections as you advise.

Had a short play with it tonight. Started it up, numbers jumping all over the place, even when held up in the air. Did a factory reset. Tried multiple noise cancellations/ground balances and after turning the sensitivity right down, I managed to get it to settle down a little but it was still...

Thornborough sounds interesting. I guess you could do a day trip there from Cairns?

Hey Drew, I'm new on this forum too and live in Cairns. I bought a metal detector last month and am keen as mustard. I want a pan too... I tried detecting in Freshwater creek (there was an old gold mine there), Holloways, Trinity and Ellis Beach and Goomboora Park. So far I've found $3.80 in...

Minelab's big sell is that the Equinox Multi IQ tech will 'obsolete' all single frequency detectors. I'm interested to know what you experienced prospectors think of that claim?

Thanks for this info, this is obviously the way to go for those of us in regional areas. On the waiting list now :P. The only dealer in Cairns is Anaconda and they only let you order stuff which is currently on their website.

Bought a go-find-60 2 days ago for the kids and am now 9 bottle caps, 1 interesting piece of scrap metal and 2 20 cent pieces richer! My 7 year old is having dreams about it! Great fun! This is the best hobby! Waiting for the Equinox is KILLING ME!

Thanks Ignas! That's a great idea.

That was my first thought as well but there is only about $300 between the two. We won't be going on any gold prospecting expeditions but it might be fun to try and find a bit of gold in a creek.

Thanks for the replies and info. I'm leaning towards the Equinox if it is as you-beaut as they claim, it's light weight and has this multi IQ thing (which I don't really understand). The boys will grow into it anyway! I'll be following this forum forever now. We went out to Agate Creek last...

I believe they are around $1300. Concerned about whether the kids can handle a large metal detector and hoping they don't destroy it!

    Minelab Equinox tips and questions

Hi all, first time poster here with zero metal detecting experience. Kids were bugging me to buy one and the $350 one at BCF seems like a toy. Looked online and came across the Equinox. We'll just be using it around our camp sites and the beach. Not heading out to look for gold and the kids will...
