Thanks for the replies it was scary enough standing near it let alone going down it! One more thing, how did the old timers know exactly where to dig?

Today I came across an old mine shaft about 7-10m deep, how did they actually use these? I know it's dangerous but would it be worth detecting the walls of the shaft?

Hey guys has anyone had any luck out Forbes/Parkes way? I know it's gold country and there are lots of mines but 99% is private property farmland. Just wondering if anyone else has been out this way?
