Nice one there Peter, your right about the black ones must have thrown some out in the early days :mad: These days I have a magnet, if its ironstone twang, throw out, if its not wont stick as easily. Also have a stong pinlight in the truck these days incase of iffy ones. Cheers

Stonevalue, only worth as much as someone will pay for it I reckon. Zircon out at Gemtree in the field started as low as 30p/c cut and went as high as 150p/c cut. Thats all I know about it, but we dont do it for the money its all about being in the bush and having something to do isnt it?????I...

Heyya all, here are some of my stones, only photo of rough stone I have got is from my 2012 trip which is mainly zircon, peridot, topaz and some garnets.... Next image is mainly cut Topaz, the largest is 23c with some inclusions the rest is fairly well eyeclean, couple of moonstone and smokies...

G`day, spent 3 weeks there in 2012, the tours from gemtree will help you get your eye in.Think all the gear is available from the caravan park but a washtub and willoughby are essential as stones need washing(same as sapphire). I spent only 1 day on the garnets in 3 weeks and got enough.the rest...

Nice, well done :) Yep all that diggin takes it out of ya, on my last trip in 2012 I dug for 5 weeks out of 7, 3 at Mudtank and 2 at Chudleigh Park with the rest spent driving took me ages to get over it. Gotta watch sendin to much to Lamberts now, with the conversion rate and their prices goin...

SAT PHONE and knowing which numbers to ring. GPS with spare batts and a mobile UHF. I carry all 3, but that is when I travel/fossick by myself.

I would say Topaz, if you hold a piece of quartz in one hand and this one in the other does it feel colder, Topaz always seems to feel cold.

Yep, also guilty first time out at Clermont thought I had everything right, yeah right. Wore my Redbacks from work figured it out fairly quick, the mongrel was that I had to go to Emerald to get somethin that fit, size 13 and all :D
