I saw a vid on youtube a while back... some guy built a 6 volt blower, and mini dry washer, it was a bit bigger than a day pack, but not so big.. It was a brilliant design. Just searched for it, can't find it.. Dry panning works IF the material is really dry.. if not, you'll throw all the gold...

Could be a short to the board, maybe the mono socket is touching the case, or board?..
