    hot rocks

To explain more the rock that was broken to reveal the nugget, came from an area where there were lots of other rocks of the same colour, some rocks gave a stong signal and some didn't. The nugget appeared to be encased within the rock but not part of it. It came out shiny and clean and it was...

    Minelab GPX4500 tips, settings, questions

Have been detecting today with the old 17 inch coiltek mono experimenting with settings and although its picking up targets it is also picking up lots of noisy ground, too noisy to use for a long session really. Tomorrow will try smaller coils and with the information you have given I might be...

    hot rocks

A few years ago north of Kalgoorlie where the the hot rocks are thick and strong it was very easy to become complacent about hot rocks and ignore them. One day while detecting with a mate who had been carrying around a 6 inch hot around in his vehicle for a while, he chucked it on the ground and...

This is after I have done an auto tune. I'm using the coiltek 17 inch eliptical...

    Minelab GPX4500 tips, settings, questions

Why does the main menu or upper part only shows special options in soil timings even though it is not selected on the front switch. To further explain, when soil timings switch is set in normal or enhance the main menu still shows special and its options. and not normal or enhance.

    Minelab GPX4500 tips, settings, questions

I only want to use the menu side of things with no ear phones so as to have a better understanding of its layout as I have found the manual confusing. Would this damage the detector? I can experiment with settings in the field but need to know how to access everything first and want to take...

    Minelab GPX4500 tips, settings, questions

Is it safe to use a 4500 inside a home or caravan without headphone attached so that I can familiarize myself with menu settings etc. I have had the 4500 for about 6 years now and have only ever used the fp settings as I had no real understanding of how to get the best out of my detector. Have...

Where did that nugget come from?

Having found a number of one nugget spots, I often try to understand where it has originated from. Another prospector said that gold can travel under ground and can be kilometers from its original source. Is this possible or was he telling me a story?
