The Chinese, How hard did they work!!

I remember as a Kid, late fifties, we were told that if the Chinese had been in that area - pickings would be very very slim indeed...and you never went through diggings after a Chinaman had been through, because there was no point. There thoroughness was well known.

    NSW/QLD highbanker solution

Reading and thinking about how people see the interruption of flow, I thought about bag pipes... A bag pipe has a reservoir prior to the chanter - the flow from the bag is restricted by the orifice where the chanter joins the main body of the bag pipe. The i.d. of the mouth piece is larger than...

Dredging in Australia for recreational activities IS illegal..

Any water that enters a watercourse in NSW is owned by a Catchment Authority. Turbidity causes problems for them and so they pull the conservation aspect. Turbidity, under the right circumstances, promotes cyanobacteria/bluegreen algae, which is a pain in the arse for all concerned but is...

    What are these rocks ?

I reckon that they were originally organic matter - like a seed or something, and it landed on the bed of a shallow sea, or lake, and over time it got covered by silt - it then rotted away and the cavity left in the silt/clay was filled with mineralised water which dried out over time, leaving...

    Grabben Gullen information and questions

Not a silly question at all. The female Brown will guard it's territory where its eggs are, according to the Old Fella's, and so, the logic was that as soon as you weren't a threat to those eggs, you were right. As for not running - I'll leave that to some one else to find any truth behind...

    Grabben Gullen information and questions

I don't mind the red bellies - they 'go' the browns, and move off when they see you. The Browns are bastards and will chase you though. I was down Tailem bend in my youth, cooling off in an irrigation canal - I'd been hay cutting - and this brown saw me from 150 yards away and did the old...
