Went for a pan in Slaty Creek Creswick. Everyone seems to say there is plenty of fine gold. Found heaps of black sand but only one fly poo speck. I Followed what I thought was the heavies line in the creek ..ie the bigger rocks across inside bends... but no love. Should I be looking else where...
Hey Flowerpot how are you going with the floating gold? I never thought there was such a thing until I saw it with my own eyes. A lirrle bit of dishwasher finish broke the surface tension to keep it down. Doing some reading it seems to happen with crushed rock. Probably not worth worrying about...
Just thought I'd share the results of a trailer full of Balarrat Gold pay dirt.
There was gold to be found in every pan. It was well worth it to cure the bug whilst at home. Also worthwhile to work on panning skills.
Third time unlucky. Tried along Andersons creek. Tried to read the creek and the likely spots...tried the back end of bed rock...till hitting rock below. Should have known it had been done to desth when broken glass started to come up.... not a speck.
Second trip...went searching for somewhere on Watson's Creek. Where I wanted to go was in the National park....wish google maps had this national park area mapped a bit better.
Sold. My 8 year son and I have done a few panning trips with nothing to show so I'd like to keep up the interest...this will be perfrct to practice on. No doubt I'll have a yard fully of kids wanting to give it a go... i can't pm yet. My number XXXXXXXXXX

Hi Ewan,
I'm only new here so don't think I send direct messages yet. I'd be interested to hear of any spots around mt disappointment and tallarook that might be worth filling a pan with.
Hi Everyone,
Like most people posting in the introduce yourself forum I'm a newbie.
I have dabbled in gold panning and gem stone prospecting at various stages in my life and now want to try and spend some time chasing bright shinny things.
I think it must be in the blood coming from 1850's...
