Nice find eldorado, you've probably never seen one because that coin was not minted for general circulation, someone has busted it out of a mint set or pnc and spent it as face value. Thats a really good find in circulation. The 'C' under lizzie is the Canberra mint mark and usually if you see...
Cheers silver, I've been using this magnifying app to also take photos, the photo file size is spot on so no need to reduce the photo before uploading but it seems it uploads the photo 90 out
It used to work fine the way i use to do it so i might just load photos up the old school...
Hey guys and girls.
I found this one today in change.
1973 50c, which is very collectable only 4 mil minted for circulation (thanks silver :Y: ) But this one also has an error that they call a "lamination flaw" which is caused by an impurity in the metal of the coins planchet.
Nice...
As its an already ended ebay item and someone has purchased it i might just leave it as is i think, dont really want to be gettin in the middle of somthinb that doesn't concern me :)
No Gypsy mines a centenary of federation.
So here is the reply I received from the guys at http://www.australian-coins.com with what is possibly going on with that 50c coin
"That is post mint damage. Most common theory is that its damage caused by a rolling machine. You see it on quite a few 50c coins from the 1970s onwards."
So just...
Cheers Gypsy :Y:
Yeah I'm racking my brain trying to figure out how this might occur during the minting process which is why i just put it down to pmd. But then saw the same error on another coin which looks exactly the same which sparked speculation, even the angle at which it travels along is...
Hey guys, found this one in my change the other day. I didn't really think too much about it thinking it is just post mint damage, but put it away anyway incase it might be somthing of interest.
It wasn't until this evening that I stumbled across a very similar fault on a 1979 50c coin on ebay...
:o :o just goes to show that you never know what can turn up in your lose change, I've heard stories of people finding half sovs givin in change as 5c coins.
If he left it in the bottom of the pokie machine then maybe its still floatin around in the bottom of one ;)
Righto I'll put you all out of your misery  :)
Close silver, you have the right idea as far as "cud" error is concerened.
Like i said the errors are slight and quite hard to pick up but once you see it itll stand out. The coin on the LHS has a tiny little "cud" on the 4th roos back...
Righto, this ones for those numismatics out there and for those who just genuinely love to have fun
This is a mini competition  prize is bragging rights only :D
Both coins were found recently in circulation, both coins have slight errors and...
Found today a 1994 year of the family "wide" date 50c coin.
Coin on the right is the wide date coin and coin on the left is the standard coin.
Coin on top is the standard coin, and coin on the bottom is the wide date coin, you'll see the numbers of the 1994 "wide" date coin are spaced...
