It was found on an old farm with mostly pre 1900 coins etc. There was an Australia shoulder badge near it so it may have been brought back from ww1 as a souvenir perhaps. When the ground dries out I'm planning to head back out to the site and go over it again.
Thanks guys. I have had a lot of luck lately, mainly because I got permission to go over a couple of old homesteads. I'll enjoy it while it lasts, always a dry patch sooner or later.
Cleaned up the ring and certainly gold but may just be gilding, need to get it checked out.
Headed back out to the old farmhouse and picked up a few more coins.
also an old S.A. fire brigade button

We went back to an old farmhouse today for another look and picked up some nice coins.
I found another dog tag which makes 3 for the week.
Got this ring which I think is a copper alloy with gold gilding. Has a stamp on it 'WMNC'.
Few other random items.

Yesterday we went to check out an old camp site that was used for school camps up until 15 years ago or so. Buildings all torn down now and it's covered in broken glass and trash but we got a nice haul of coins in a few hours. We hardly covered 20% of the place so plenty of ground to cover yet...
Got my dad down on holidays so we've been out with the X-Terra's to some old sites on a friends property. Had some interesting finds so thought I'd share them.
It's funny that I'd never found an old dog rego tag before and in the space of a week I found 2 pre-1900 ones at different sites...
